“I’d have to say that the Cottingham Collection products are hardwearing, stylish and great value for money”

About the Project

Having found and purchased a Grade 2 listed Merchants House and shops that was built in the late 18th Century and after consultations with the relevant authorities I was ready to build my dream kitchen.

Working closely with Pete Harvey of Waveney Bespoke Handcrafted Kitchens and Furniture we came up with the layout and design for my 400 square feet Kitchen. That included thirty-nine draws and twelve cupboards in addition to built in appliances.

Once I had established the design, I had a definite idea of the feel and look I wanted for the handles, knobs and hooks. I wanted something with an industrial look and feel but also with timelessness.

Sourcing the Fittings

Pete had worked with Adfix and the Cottingham Collection range of products before so they seemed like the obvious choice.

I made contact with the guys at Adfix and initially had a conversation about what I was looking for and the overall concept being the look I was after. The next day a box of sample designs for D Cup handles arrived in the mail!

Having sorted out the handles another conversation ensued and another box of sample knobs promptly arrived. This set the pattern for the rest of the project. By this point, I would also get a call or an email with pictures of products “just in” that the guys at Adfix thought may be of interest – not a generic, randomly generated email but a specific personalised service. By the end of the project, I got the feeling the Adfix guys were just as invested in the outcome of the project as I was.

Inspiration from Reclaimed Timber

Much of the wood we used for the project was reclaimed from the sides of disused railway goods carriages. The GNER coat hooks fitted the overall design feel and seemed too good not to incorporate into the project.

At times, we actively took inspiration from the hardware available and incorporated a design aspect to the kitchen to make use of them. The hooks for the mugs being a prime example and the same went for the cast iron airbricks that became kick board vents and hot pan trivets.

The Finishing Touches

A casual question to the Adfix sales office about lighting solicited a sample lampshade and fittings – again just perfect for the project.

After many months of hard work, we hope you enjoy these photos of our finished work as much as we are enjoying this fantastic kitchen! We’d certainly highly recommend the Cottingham Collection range of Authentic, Vintage and Antique Hardware and Goods.
